  • The man who was killed in the shooting in central Independence Tuesday evening has been identified.
Independence police identified the victim as Bryan Arreola, 20, of Independence.
Independence police detective Mike Onka said Arreola was shot in the street around 6 p.m. Tuesday just east of the intersection of West College Street and North Crysler Street. He got in his car and started driving but struck a pole and two houses, causing a large power outage in the area.
Arreola was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Onka said two persons of interest had been taken into custody but were not charged. “They were interviewed and released pending further investigation,” Onka said.
Police are still seeking information in the case. Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call the Tips Hotline at 474-8477 (TIPS) or the Independence Police Department at 816-325-7300.
