Daughters of the American Colonists state regent Kathy Bach of Holt, a member of the Osage Chapter, will open the State Assembly March 5 with a State Regent Tea in at the Days Inn Convention Hotel in Kirksville, Mo.

The invited guest speaker on March 7 is Cathy Carol Rose of the Indianapolis Chapter, talking about early practices at Williamsburg and colonial times of the early families, including the presidents.

For hotel reservations, call the Days Inn for March 5 and 6 at 660-665-8244. Call Janie Magers of the George Hull Chapter in Kirksville for reservations at 660-488-6450. For more information, call State Regent Bach at 816-320-3716.

Prizes also will be given out at that time. Regents have copied for each of the membership the prize and awards 2009 offered by the Missouri Society.

Unique to Missouri DAC chapters, the contest finds the chapters, as well as the individuals, searching for ways they can make a difference to their communities and earn prizes for their chapters. Most prizes are monies, with a few earning books, flags, stickers and more. Some chapters rely on these wins to finance their yearly budget.

Contributing books to libraries, clothing and fun things to the veterans, being the first to submit dues and reports are some of the ways to enter within the state. Obtaining radio minutes for the Daughters of the American Colonists or voicing your opinion on the quality of television shows, or volunteering to help the veterans can all earn a prize.

The National Committees offer a range of prizes. The National Historian offers ladies to submit stories of an “old house.”.Bach asks Missouri ladies to send her a picture and paragraph of the house where they lived during childhood days to involve each other in their heritage.

Bach stresses the importance of these prizes. Doing/making the project is only a part. The project must be reported in writing or e-mail to her and the committee chairman, as well as to the person responsible for the prize to report to Mrs. Branton and Friedman of the St. Louis area.
