To the editor:

Whoa! What in the world is going on with the oil barons? Oil on the open marked closed Feb. 17 at $34.93 a barrel.

Good deal. I decided to fill my car with fresh gasoline. What? It is $1.75 a gallon. Wait a minute, here we go again. Remember back when oil was $160 a barrel or higher, and gas was $3.90 to $4.50 a gallon across the country.

So, the big guys go to Washington last fall for a (confessional) meeting, and the gas price within the next four months drops clear down to $1.35 a gallon here in the Independence area. This causes me to wonder, surely not our representatives in Washington would have campaign money coming from big oil? What an evil thought!

Then on the TV news Feb. 18, the oil barons announce they will be cutting back on refining production. Wow, how about those big oil tankers coming into our harbors? Oh yes, just hide them, I mean hold ’em.
Do you think writing or calling our senators or representatives and letting them know we are fed up with being duped by big oil companies would help? Do you think that would change anything? Maybe. Right now gasoline should not be higher than 99 cents to $1.20 the market price of oil being $34 to $35 a barrel.

You know, the economy might improve if we could get rid of the greed in the oil industry and everyone would work together to make a stronger America.
