Timothy Lutheran Ministries, 425 N.W. R.D. Mize Road in Blue Springs, is in the midst of a spiritual growth campaign known as “40 Days of Purpose,” with members worshipping in weekend services and meeting in small groups to focus on the principles in Rick Warren’s book, “The Purpose-Driven Life.”

The central question is, “What on earth am I here for?.” There is an emphasis on gathering items for those in need as a response to Blue Springs Mayor Carson Ross’s “Homeless Awareness Month,” which began in February. The community is invited to attend the church’s culminating celebration service at the Blue Springs High School Performing Arts Center at 10 a.m. March 8, when they can drop off their donations for the homeless.

Who are the three agencies Timothy decided to assist as part of its 40 Days of Purpose spiritual growth campaign?

The agencies are the Community Services League office in Blue Springs, we are collecting socks and underwear; Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Kansas City – toiletry items for homeless distribution; and Lutheran Urban Mission Agency, non-perishable food for their pantry.

Why is this mission project important to this spiritual growth campaign?

An important part of a person’s spiritual growth is to recognize and serve the needs of others. We hope these projects will raise awareness of needs in our community and encourage people to respond.

Where and when can donations be accepted?

Anyone may drop off donations at the containers outside the Blue Springs High School Performing Arts Center from 8 a.m. to noon March 8. Donations may also be dropped off during the week in the lobby of Timothy’s main campus.

What will happen on March 8 at the celebration service?

We are inviting our entire congregation, which normally attends one of five weekend services, to come together in one service at the Performing Arts Center at 10 a.m. to celebrate what we see God accomplishing in our campaign. In addition to the three congregational mission projects just described, nearly 300 members meet weekly in home groups to grow spiritually through study and to perform their own community service projects. We hope to recognize and celebrate that as well as where we see God taking us in our future expansion in south Blue Springs.
