Jerry Lee Belcher, 70, of Jupiter, Fla., passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by friends and family on Friday, May 25, 2012, from complications of vascular disease.

He was born on August 25, 1941, in St. Joseph, Mo., in Buchanan County. He moved to Florida in the late ’80s because of his love for the year-round warm weather, the beach and ocean, boating and the popular Florida sunshine. One of his favorite things to do was to BBQ on Christmas Day. He acquired many friends from Suni Sands and enjoyed socializing with them. Jerry often spent time with his grandchildren, who he adored very much! Jerry attended Northeast High School, Kansas City, Mo. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Anita, whom he married on October 17, 1979, in Raytown, Mo. He worked as a professional residential and commercial painter until his retirement in 2002. Jerry credits Melvin Rogers (Rogers Painting), where he worked for many years, for being his mentor and teaching him “all the tricks of the trade.” Jerry was a member of Painters Union local #9 until his retirement. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita (Todd) Oakes (1983); stepfather, Howard Oakes (1995); father, Christopher Belcher (1970), and brothers, Larry Belcher (1970), and Danny Belcher (2011.)

He is also survived by his six sons, Chris Belcher, Rodney Belcher, Johnny Belcher, Bonner Springs, Kan., Jody Leggett, Houston, Texas, Richard Ozburn, Independence, Mo., and Victor Day, Liberty, Mo.; two daughters, Janice Belcher, Kansas City, Mo., and Nicci (Daryl) Patton, Independence, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Jacqueline Ozburn, Lee Summit, Mo., Matthew Ozburn, Jupiter, Fla. (who resides in the home), Jami Day, Kansas City, Mo., Victor Day Jr., Chris Patton, Cody Patton, Kevin Patton, K.C. Hicks, Independence, Mo., and Maria Belcher, Warsaw, Mo.; one great-grandson, Landyn Patton, Warsaw, Mo.; three sisters, Linda Richardson (Richard), Raytown, Mo., Pat Parrish (Ron), Raymore, Mo., and Melanie Collis (Joe), Deltona, Fla.; and two brothers, Denis Belcher (Rita), Deltona, Fla., and Clifton Belcher, address unknown.
