Examiner High School Girls Athlete of the Week for Oct. 20-25

SPORT: Softball
CLASS: Senior
SCHOOL: Blue Springs
HIGHLIGHTS: The senior second baseman redefined clutch for the Wildcats in the Class 4 Missouri State High School Softball Championships over the weekend. Despite suffering from torn ligaments in her index finger, she singled with two outs to drive in Mackenzie Sykes with the winning run in a 6-5 come-from-behind state semifinal win over Webb City on Friday. In the championship on Saturday, she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and hit a solo home run over the fence in center field to spark a four-run outburst in the fourth inning that broke a scoreless tie. The Wildcats went on to beat Parkway South 7-1 to complete a 31-0 state championship season. Price finished the final four by going 4-for-7 with three runs and two big RBIs.
COMMENT: “She’s the ultimate gamer,” Wildcats coach Roger Lower said. “I can’t even imagine what she would have said if we’d have tried to take her out of the game. She comes to play every game. And she picked a great time to get two of the biggest hits of her career.”
