An Independence woman driving south on Route F in Eastern Jackson County was seriously injured Sunday when she drove into the path of a westbound vehicle on U.S. 50.

Margaret Comer, 80, was taken to Centerpoint Medical Center with serious injuries, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Lincoln, Harry D. Stevens, 60, of Lee’s Summit, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit.

The patrol reported that Comer was not buckled in, but Stevens was. Comer’s 2002 Mercury was a total loss, and Stevens’ 1991 Lincoln had extensive damage.
