Ruth E. McCay, 92, of Independence, MO, passed away October 28, 2008 at her home of 60 years surrounded by her loving family.

Ruth E. McCay, 92, of Independence, MO, passed away October 28, 2008 at her home of 60 years surrounded by her loving family.

Ruth was born December 30, 1915 and raised on a farm in Lamoni, Iowa. She taught in a one-room school house until marrying and moving to Kansas City where she did defense work while her husband was overseas. She worked for Sears Roebuck in accounting until starting a family. Motherhood was the fulfillment of her dreams and where she did her best work. Her greatest joy was her family. Ruth was active in Girl Scouts, PTA, the Senior Citizens Craft Shop and was an Election Judge Supervisor.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Ragan McCay in April of 2008, one brother and one sister.

Others left to cherish Ruth’s memory are daughter Barbara (Mike) Bauer of Independence, MO, son Don (Judy) McCay of Hasting, MN,  grandchildren Jeremy Bauer, Jason (Lindsay) Bauer, Derreck Gossett McCay, Kimberlea Biggs, Michael (Rhonda) Gossett, great grandchildren Samantha Biggs, Bella and Brady Gossett, one brother Dick (Patti) Barnes of Lamoni, Iowa and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday November 3, at Mt. Washington Methodist Church 584 S. Arlington Independence, MO. A “Celebration of Life” in honor of Ruth will be 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church, where she was a member for 50 years.  Family and friends may leave messages of condolences at www.forevercemeteries.com.
