One lane of westbound Interstate 70 has been reopened near Concordia, Mo., the Missouri Department of Transportation says.

All westbound lanes had been closed at milepost 59 after a semi-trailer truck and into a MoDOT truck that was protecting a work crew. One MoDOT employee suffered minor injuries.

MoDOT typically puts a large truck – with an arrow directing traffic to the left or right – behind a work crew. If a driver should fail to move over anyway, the truck is designed to absorb the impact.

“It saved lives, minimized damage to equipment and saved injury,” spokesman Steve Porter said this afternoon.
