  • A Blue Springs resident for many years, Traci Via served in numerous civic capacities, including a member of the Blue Springs City Council. Involved in local politics, Via now has a new position that she plans on using to her – and the city’s – advantage in exposing its overall benefits.
    1. Can you tell us about your new position with the University of Central Missouri?
My position as the director of Alumni and Constituent Relations for the University of Central Missouri is to provide strategic leadership and management in the organization. In short, my role is to engage, re-engage, connect and reconnect alumni back to the university through reunions, events, academic areas and service while developing and implementing programs to broaden the educational opportunities for, and services to, students and alumni.
    2. Are you still active in the Blue Springs community?
I love Blue Springs and will always be active in my community. I still serve in many ways, and look forward to new opportunities in the future.
    3. Will this new position help open doors for the city of Blue Springs and its various organizations, including groups like EDC and the Chamber of Commerce?
Absolutely. There are always opportunities to open doors. I am just getting my feet under me but look forward to discovering ways to connect UCM, alumni and my community.
    4. Are you considering another run in local politics?
I am not exactly sure what the future holds for me and my family, but I never say never. I have enjoyed all of the leadership opportunities I have been given to serve my community and will continue to be involved at some level.
    5. How can UCM alumni and constituents get involved?
There are many ways Alumni Relations can help alumni and friends connect. There are mentoring and volunteer opportunities, opportunities to speak to student classes or external groups, one could serve as a resource to current students or alumni and there are travel and networking opportunities as well and leadership positions available. Please contact me at 660-543-6000 or at via@ucmo.edu if you would like to learn more.
