The Missouri Department of Natural Resources this afternoon said plans are still on for ceremonies for the opening of trout season Thursday, despite Tuesday night's heavy storms in southern Missouri.
Bennett Spring State Park is near Lebanon, Mo., which was hit by storms, and Roaring River State Park is near Cassville, which also was hit. Farther east, trout also attract anglers to Montauk State Park near Salem. The DNR says none of those parks suffered damage. Local economies depend heavily on events such as opening day, and the DNR points out that they are open for business and welcoming visitors.
Gov. Jay Nixon plans to fire the shot to mark the opening of fishing at 6:30 a.m. Thursday at Roaring River.
