Leigh Ann Putnam, 61, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2011, at Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care.

Leigh Ann Putnam, 61, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2011, at Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, August 26, 2011, at Mount Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City.

Leigh Ann was born in Brookfield, Missouri, on October 13, 1949, to H. James and Dolores J (Haney) Slaughter. Leigh Ann’s early childhood years were spent in Marceline, Missouri, moving in 1953, when her father started Slaughter Construction in Kansas City, Missouri. Leigh Ann graduated from Center High School in 1967 and started her nursing career in geriatrics. She graduated from Menorah Medical Center, where she received the Outstanding Student Award. Leigh Ann continued her career in dialysis in Missouri, Kansas, and Arkansas.

Leigh Ann leaves behind her husband, William G. Wilcox, of the home, and her companion Angel; her son, Arthur (Putt) Putnam, and wife, Shelley, of Martin City, MT; grandchildren, Heaven and Rickey, and her step-grandson, Cole Deruse. Also surviving are her mother, Dolores J. Slaughter Warren, and step-father, Bill Warren, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; her brother, James David Slaughter, and wife, Gail, of Fair Grove, Missouri, and nephew, Zac Slaughter, of Sydney, Australia. She also leaves her dear friend, Sandy Putnam, of Columbia Falls, Montana.

She was preceded in death by her father, James (Jim) Slaughter, and her grandmother, B. Levena Haney Burgener.

Leigh Ann will be remembered as a sweet, honest, loving person and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
