Hildegarde Hommes, 80, of Independence, Missouri, passed away August 18, 2011.

Hildegard was born March 4, 1931, in Denver, Colorado, to Frederick and Ann (Anderson) Gustafson. In March of 1960, she married Harry Hommes in Independence, Missouri, and together they made their home in the Independence area. Hildegarde spent her career as a teacher, starting in Denver Public Schools and then Kansas City Public Schools. She retired in 1993, after a wonderful 40 years in education. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 21 of Independence and a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ of Independence.

She is preceded into death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Hildegarde is survived by her husband of 51 years, Harry, of the home; two sons, Kurt Hommes and his wife, Kathy, of Raytown, MO, and Kyle Hommes and his wife, Rocky, of Lee’s Summit, MO; one brother, Russell Gustafson of Hillsborough, CA; one Sister, Kathy Wright of Sunrise Beach, MO; and four grandchildren: Kyle, Steve, Kayla and Tyler.
