  • George Donovan Cookston of Independence, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013.
    George was born in Independence, Mo., on Dec. 10, 1925, to Laura Davis Cookston and Johnny M. Cookston. George served in World War II as a Merchant Marine. He retired from Procter and Gamble. George was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as the Wagon Master of the Jayco camping club. George was preceded in death by his father, Johnny, his mother, Laura, his wife of 53 years, Jeannette Pountain Cookston, and his grandson, Donovan “Donny” Shackelford.
    He is survived by wife, Ann Daly Cookston; daughter, Cheryl Cookston Martin and husband, Russell, daughter, Sheila Cookston Jenkins and husband, Doyle; son, Steve Cookston; stepson, Mark Daly and wife, Rebecca; stepson, Eddy Daly; granddaughter, Kristi Martin Cipolla and husband, Tim, grandson, Ryan Martin and wife, Amy, granddaughter, Kelli Martin, grandson, Scott Shackelford and wife, Shuang, granddaughter, Sara Jenkins Perea and husband, Andre, grandson, Chase Cookston, granddaughter, Erin Cookston, grandson, Jake Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Isabelle Cipolla, Nicolas Cipolla, Noah Shackelford, Sofia Cipolla, Andrew Martin, Eden Perea and Brooke Shackelford.
    There will be a graveside service at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Cancer Action and The Independence Police Department K9 Unit.
