‘Buy local’ group meets Wednesday
The first meeting of the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce’s Buy Local Task Force will take place at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the chamber office, 1000 S.W. Main St.

Poker tournament benefits hospital
Texas Hold’em will take place at 2 p.m. Aug. 23 at Side Pockets in Blue Springs, 1237 S.W. Missouri 7. Each participant’s $30 donation will benefit St. Mary’s Medical Center’s “Calling to Care” campaign.


City official speaks at chamber luncheon
The Grain Valley Chamber of Commerce luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 4 is open to members of the public. Cathy Cox, Grain Valley assistant to the city administrator, will present updates on the city’s economic development and downtown improvements. Box lunches are $5 each. “LinkedIn 101” will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. Aug. 12 at Side Pockets, 1237 S.W. Missouri 7 in Blue Springs. The seminar will review how to use LinkedIn, a business-oriented social networking site, as a business tool.

Edward Jones rates well in satisfaction
For the fourth time in five years, financial services firm Edward Jones ranks highest in investor satisfaction with full service brokerage firms, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Full Service Investor Satisfaction StudySM. Independence and Blue Springs have a total of 14 Edward Jones 14 financial advisers.


The study measures overall investor satisfaction with full-service investment firms based on six factors – account offerings, convenience, commissions and fees, financial adviser, investment performance and account statements. Edward Jones ranked highest in investor satisfaction in 2005, 2006 and 2007, and tied for highest in 2002, when the study began. The 2009 study is based on responses from more than 4,400 investors who primarily invest with one of the 21 firms included in the study.
