Bob Rennison is the director of events, Independence Pro Hockey, LLC

What is your official title with Independence Pro Hockey and what are some of your duties? My title with Independence Pro Hockey is “director of events.” My duties will increase when the season begins but will continue to include ticket sales (season tickets now, group tickets when the season begins), setting up meetings, introducing newcomers to Independence to as many people as possible, representing the team at events, assisting fans, selling ads for the team radio broadcasts and much more.

How did you get involved with Independence Pro Hockey? I feel that my involvement with the team is a case of the good lord putting me in the right place at the right time.

City Manager Robert Heacock has said you were very instrumental in getting the ball rolling on the city’s attempt to land a CHL team. How did that come about? The course I usually take when going for my long walk was altered and I ended up meeting Jim Schultz and Jason White who were running for re-election. I told them of Global Entertainment and they (along with other city officials) agreed to meet with Kent Oelkers of Global. It was divine intervention.

What is your background with the CHL? I was director of broadcasting (play-by-play announcer) and an account executive for the Wichita Thunder, Topeka ScareCrows and Topeka Tarantulas of the CHL. I also was hotel coordinator for the Thunder.

IPH conducted a naming contest for the new franchise. How did that go and when can the public expect the unveiling of the team’s name and the contest winner? The naming contest went better than expected. Nearly 3,000 people submitted over 1,000 names. Many names were very creative and a lot of thought was put into their selection. A teacher from Thomas Hart Benton Elementary School sent several selections from her class. Another woman dropped off around 30 names she and her children compiled. The team name, logo and colors will be announced soon. Team officials are carefully going over every aspect of this process. No stones will be left uncovered. When they are sure the right name has been selected a press conference will be announced. The contest winners will be announced at that time or at a press conference to follow a short time later.
