  • The Blue Springs baseball team scored its first victory Wednesday afternoon.
    David Stober pitched six innings, singled and doubled and drove in three runs to pick up the decision in a 6-5 triumph over Smithville in the Kansas City Metro Leadoff Tournament at Legacy Park in Lee’s Summit.
    “It was nice to get the game in and the kids responded after losing two games Tuesday,” Blue Springs coach Marc Hines said.
    Stober needed only 68 pitches to record five strikeouts and take the victory. Austin Tate amd Jeremy Lufft pitched the seventh to secure the win.
    Lufft singled three times and Jake Abernathy singled twice.
    OAK PARK 8, GRAIN VALLEY 4: Grain Vallley finished 0-3 in Pool A in the Metro Leadoff Tournament.
    The remainder of the tournament was cancelled because of weather.
    Oak Park was named Pool A winner, Rockhurst (3-0) prevailed in Pool B and Lee’s Summit West (2-1) in Pool C.
