  • The Metro Golf Junior League is looking for golfers ages 5 to 16 to compete in a 12-week program designed to teach kids the sport by participating in a team-structured environment.
The league is holding a sign-up day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Drumm Farm Golf Club. The cost of the league is $150 per child and that includes all fees for the course and instruction. The league will also provide a shirt and visor for each participant to wear as a uniform. Trophies and or medals will be awarded to each individual who participates. There will be fundraising opportunities for the league and individual teams and an after-season party for either the entire league or each team depending on the size of enrollment.
The first four weeks of the program will be handled by a certified golf instructor or a PGA instructor. After going over the fundamentals of the game, the next eight weeks will consist of one practice and one match for each squad.
Matches will be scored as a team every week. Each team will compete against every other team in the league and there will be no head-to-head weekly matches. Matches and practices will be one hour in length – approximately three to four holes of golf – each week. Drinks and snacks will be provided after each match.
Coaches for each team will consist of volunteers. The volunteers will be given instructions on how to coach the players throughout the season. Each coach will be required to submit to a background check and will be charged a minimal fee.
