LaShelle Sue (Broshar) Thurman passed into the loving arms of her mom and daddy after a courageous, odds beating battle with cancer. She left us on Thursday, March 21, 2013, her husband and son by her side.

LaShelle was born on March 12, 1955, to Wayne and Lesta Jane Broshar in Denison, Iowa. Her family eventually settled in Independence, Mo., where she graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1973. She worked in the dry cleaning business for most of her career. Since March of 2005, she worked for Home Depot in Lee’s Summit.

She is survived by her husband, John “Buddy”, son, Jeffrey, daughter-in-law, Krissi, and granddaughters, Triniti and Tierni, of Blue Springs; her sister and brother-in-law, Becci and David Thompson; brothers-in-law, Bobby and Rick Thurman; and many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews.

She loved to cook, always eager to share recipes. She had a green thumb, with hundreds of show stopping petunias her pride and joy. Her compassion for dogs and cats resulted in dozens of adoptions over the years.

Her passion was to love and support to her family. She always gave more than expected in everything she did. Even in her final days, she was fierce about staying independent. The hole in the hearts of those who love her will be hard to fill.

Visitation and a brief celebration of her life will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Noland Road Chapel, 509 S. Noland Road, Independence, 816-252-8900.
