Remember those who have gone on
A service of remembrance to honor the memory of loved ones will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Eastgate Christian Church, 4010 S. River Blvd., Independence.
There will be a candle lighting, speaking the names of the deceased, music and a short memorial message. All are invited to bring an ornament to place on a tree of remembrance, if desired, to make the service more personal. A time of fellowship will follow the service.
Participants are asked to call the church at 816-252-6828 between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday to provide the names and the relationship of the loved one.
Santa, pancakes at Colonial Hills
Colonial Hills Community of Christ will hold a free pancake breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, 3539 S.W. Missouri 7, Blue Springs.
There will also be a Christmas Shoppe with items available for $1.50 each (free gift wrapping), and prize drawings. Also, have your picture taken with Santa for $1, or bring your own camera.

Boy Scouts to serve pancake breakfast
Boy Scout Troop 813 will hold its third annual pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Sunday at Timothy Lutheran Church, 425 N.W. R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs.

Sermon series focused on song
The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection this weekend continues a sermon series, “The First Carols of Christmas.” The church, based in Leawood, has a campus at 601 N.E. Jefferson St. in Blue Springs. Services are at 10:30 a.m. and include the sermon via video.

‘God’s Promise Will Be Fulfilled’
Brad Martell will speak on the theme “God’s Promise Will Be Fulfilled” at the 10:20 a.m. worship service this Sunday at Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.
Martell is on the World Church Peace and Justice Team, a MEADS instructor teaching “Pursue Peace on Earth”, and working on his doctoral degree in environmental studies at Antioch University New England. Others participating in the service are Joe Anway, Floyd Fears, Liz Swick, David Todd and Kathy Reynolds. Special music is provided by Amy Jeffers and Barbara Fears.

Advent Bible Study scheduled
Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church will hold an Advent Bible study, “Advent of the Savior,” this Thursday and Dec. 13.
The study, led by Rev. Andrew, and will begin at 7 p.m. in Stone Hall, 3108 W. U.S. 40, Blue Springs. The focus of the entire season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ in his first Advent and the anticipation of the return of Christ in his second Advent.
An Advent party will follow the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday. Session has called a congregational meeting, also following the 10:30 a.m. worship service, for the purpose of electing our elders and deacons to the class of 2013.
The Serrv Bazaar will be available on Dec. 9, and will begin at 8 a.m. to accommodate the 8:15 a.m. worshipers, and will continue following the 10:30 a.m. worshipers.
The church is looking for unwrapped gifts for the Community Services League Christmas store. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 10, 11, 12.

Craft, collectable bazaar planned
Trinity Episcopal Church’s fourth annual Craft and Collectable Bazaar will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the church, 409 N. Liberty St., Independence.
There will be crafts, collectibles, baked goods, one-of-a-kind items, a silent auction, door prizes, and “Tea leaf readings by Madam Margarita.” A light luncheon will also be available.

Beacon Heights Community of Christ will hold its annual Breakfast with Santa from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 8, 19402 E. Holke Road (in front of BVAC) in Independence.

Lessons and carols offered at Temple
An Advent service of lessons and carols will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Community of Christ Temple, 201 S. River Blvd., Independence.
The anticipation and joy of the coming of Christ will be celebrated in song and word. Music will be provided by the Spire Chamber Ensemble and the Emporia State University Brass and Percussion, with the congregation joining in hymns and songs.

Blue Ridge Boulevard Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Independence will kick off the Christmas season on Dec. 9 at 3 p.m. with a homestyle family Christmas.

‘Christmas Joy’ at Nativity of Mary
The Christmas program “Sharing Christmas Joy!” will be begin at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, 10017 E. 36th Terrace, Independence.
