  • Burglars made off with more than $20,000 worth of equipment from a not-for-profit business on the afternoon of Dec. 5.
    The stolen items include a Toro Dingo mini skid-steer machine, trailer and various smaller pieces of equipment: two Stihl string trimmers, a Shindaiwa backpack blower, a public-address system and three Craftsman roll-around toolboxes with tools.
    The victim of the crime was Earthriders Trails Association, and the thefts occurred in Independence.
    Earthriders, known as ERTA, bulds and maintains off-road hiking and cycling trails in the area.
    Anyone who has information about the crime or the stolen equipment is asked to call 911, the TIPS Hotline at 474-8477, or the Independence Police Department at 325-6916.
