Ray Van Jones, 64, of Independence, Missouri passed away Friday, June 26, 2009, surrounded by his family.
Born June 22, 1945 in Parsons, Kansas to Van C. and Thelma (McKinley), Ray graduated from Raytown High School in 1963 and was a graduate of Baker University. Ray retired from The Independence Examiner after nine years of service in 2007. He was a member of of the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church and was active in Kiwanis International, a member of Blue Valley, Independence and Raytown. Ray was on the Board of Directors for CAPA and Sunshine Center. He was also an Ambassador for the Independence Chamber of Commence. Ray enjoyed his family and working fundraisers with his social organizations.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, Van C. Jones.
Survivors include his wife, Karen S.; his daughter, Margaret Pirone of Maine; two sons, Marshall Jones of Massachusetts and Matthew David Jones of Kansas City, Missouri; his mother, Thelma Jones of Independence, Missouri; a sister, Diane Seif of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and nine grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday July 1, 2009, at Blue Ridge United Methodist Church. The Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Kiwanis International.
