  • The Blue Springs South girls basketball team had a chance to earn a spot in the North Kansas City Tournament finals.
But a last-second shot failed to fall and the Jaguars were outscored 10-5 in overtime by the host North Kansas City Hornets in a 42-37 loss in the semifinals Wednesday night.
“It’s disappointing. We had the game in our control,” South coach Brad Oyler said. “We made some mistakes defensively and they made us pay for it.”
The Hornets scored with about a minute left to tie it before Oyler called timeout to set up a final shot. That attempt fell short and the game went to overtime.
Brooke Neal scored 11 points and Stevie Anderson added seven to lead the Jaguars, who fell to 9-7 overall. South, which led 16-12 at halftime, meets Park Hill South for third place at 5 p.m. Friday at North Kansas City.
