  • Two people were rescued by Blue Springs police officers during an early morning fire Thursday.
The Central Jackson County Fire Protection District responded to the fire, which was at a house at the corner of Sixth and Walnut streets, just east of Missouri 7 in Blue Springs, around 2:30 a.m. A cause has not yet been determined.
“Flames were visible from the residence when we arrived. It was about 30 percent involved,” said Eddie Saffell, CJC assistant chief. “It was under control within an hour, although it did take a while to make sure there were no hot spots.”
Six people were at the home at the time of the fire. Saffell said four people escaped from the upstairs on their own. Police officers pulled the other two from the house through a basement window.
No one was injured. However, there were five pets inside. Three dogs and one cat died. Saffell said firefighters were able to use oxygen to revive one dog. Another dog was in the backyard, and while he was shaken, he was otherwise unharmed.
“When the one dog came out, he was pretty lethargic,” Saffell said. “He was not responding, so he was given oxygen and started coming around. The family then took him to the vet to be checked out.”
