Flora McPherson, 85, of Independence, MO passed away Monday November 24 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, MO. 

Flora McPherson, 85, of Independence, MO passed away Monday November 24 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, MO. 

Miss McPherson was born to Archie Neal and Buress (Wilson) McPherson in Georgiana, Alabama. 

 Flora attended Graceland College and then served with the USMC during WWII from 1943-1945,  She got her degree in Music Education from Akron Univ and masters from Kent State Univ.  She taught music in the Akron Ohio public schools for 30 years while also serving as her church’s organist and music director.  In retirement she served as lead tour guide of Kirtland Temple in Kirtland Ohio, and various volunteer positions in Alabama and Missouri including at the John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit.  Flora’s life was defined by the love of music and her love of Jesus and all God’s creatures. 

Preceded in death by her beloved nephew, Karl Horst.

She is survived by her sister, Lenora (June) Horst, niece Paula Turner (Randy), nephew Kurt Horst and many many loving cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 30000 E. Valor Drive, Grain Valley, MO with Leamon Johnson and Aaron McArthur officiating. She will receive military honors for service to her country. In lieu of flowers, donations to celebrate Flora’s life may be made to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care.
