Chicago Street lights are an annual treat
Now it really is the holiday season: Thanksgiving is over, we all made it through Black Friday, and the Chicago Street lights are on in Blue Springs.
Steve Steiner, a former mayor, started this with one display in his yard. Think of the idea of lighting a single candle in the darkness. Now, 26 years later, dozens of displays run from Missouri 7 and Walnut Street, east to Fourth Street, south to Chicago Street, east to First Street, south to South Avenue and then back west toward Missouri 7. Tens of thousands of people are expected to come out to see them between now and Dec. 31. Last year, the event raised about $15,000, benefiting more than 20 local groups.
Thumbs up to Steiner and those who help him for their tireless efforts.
