Advent Communion featuring Hal Davis
Join Disciples Community of Christ at 7 p.m. Tuesday for a special Advent Communion with speaker Hal Davis. The ministry of music will be by Lauren Hall, the new Hymnal Project administrator. The Disciples congregation meets at Walnut Gardens, 19201 R.D. Mize Road.
Come help us build a home on Dec. 6. We will join Habitat for Humanity and the Walnut Gardens congregation from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the building site, 1511 Maple Ave., Independence, just south of the old Independence Regional Heath Center. Heart of America Christmas Pageant
Hear a shepherd’s story of the angels in the fields of Bethlehem, then following his doubting son who questions the real significance of the baby born that night in the “Heart of America Christmas Pageant” at the First Baptist Church of Raytown, 10500 E. Missouri 350. Performances are 7 p.m. Dec. 5, 3:30 and 7 p.m. Dec. 6, 3:30 p.m. Dec. 7, 7 p.m. Dec. 11 and 12, 3:30 and 7 p.m. Dec. 13, and 3:30 p.m. Dec. 14.
General admission tickets are complimentary, but necessary. Dec. 11 is church night, so no tickets are necessary for this performance. Tickets may be picked up at the ROC Bookstore, located at First Baptist Raytown, through the church website, www.firstbaptistraytown.com or order by mail (call to have an order form mailed to you.)

Have breakfast with Santa at Colonial Hills
Your family is invited to a free pancake breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 6 at Colonial Hills Community of Christ, 3539 S. Missouri 7, Blue Springs (south of Moreland School Road).
Have your picture taken with Santa for $1, or bring your own camera. Children will be able to shop for loved ones in the Kid’s Christmas Shoppe, where they’ll be able to choose from a wide variety of items for $1.50 each. Gift wrapping is free.

Christmas cantata at First United Methodist
The Sanctuary Choir of the First United Methodist Church of Independence will present the cantata, “Noel, Jesus Is Born,” during the combined worship service at 10 a.m. Dec. 7. Originally published in the 1970s, the cantata was presented in the early 1980s at the church, 400 W. Maple Ave.
Soloists will be Andrea Pruitt Ryan, Joshua Pruitt, Dan Roberts, Gwyn Roberts, Vicky Reuter, Diane Farrington and Venny Pruitt. Dan Roberts will be the narrator, and Angy Bounds will be the accompanist. The director is Venny Pruitt, minister of music.
The Rev. Alan D. Pruitt is senior pastor, and the Rev. Donice Heriford is associate pastor.

A ‘First Christmas’ holiday celebration
First Baptist Church of Blue Springs will be presenting it’s holiday celebration, “First Christmas” again this year after a great community response in 2007. Performances are 7 p.m. Dec. 12 and 13, and 3 and 7 p.m. Dec. 14.
“First Christmas” is a high-energy musical concert experience, featuring contemporary and classic holiday favorites performed by more than 125 musicians.
