Investment advisers to discuss market woes
The Retirement Planning Group, a local, independent registered investment advisory firm, will present a free educational seminar on the market crisis from 6:30 to 7:30 tonight at the Gamber Center, 4 S.E. Independence Ave. in Lee’s Summit.

House completes online travel work
Mary House of Independence is the among the first to graduate from the Norwegian Cruise Line’s new online travel agent university. Norwegian Cruise Line’s online university opened its virtual doors in 2008. Each graduate is required within one year to earn a minimum number of credits through a choice of accredited courses and electives.

Scratchers ticket is a $10,000 winner
Jeremy Lindsey of Independence won $10,000 on Thursday after he purchased a Missouri Lottery “$200,000 A Year For Life” Scratchers’ ticket at QuikTrip, 16801 E. U.S. 24.


Michael Greenfield of Independence also recently won the lottery. On Feb. 12, Greenfield purchased a “5X Lucky” scratchers’ ticket at Price Chopper, 4201 S. Noland Road, and won $25,000.

Local team does well in Culver’s contest
Jessica Blakely and Josh Tucker of Culver’s of Blue Springs won first place in the third annual National Grill Master competition.


They were among eight teams to reach the finals at Culver’s annual reunion that took place Feb. 9 through 11 in Milwaukee, Wis. The team won a trip to Milwaukee to compete and left with $3,500 in cash prizes, a gold medal and Grill Masters National competition apparel.

Bus service cuts coming this spring
The Kansas City Area Transportation is anticipating an $8.2 million decrease in revenues from the Kansas City government, the KCATA Board of Commissioners learned last week.
Reductions in bus service will take place, though specific reductions have yet to be determined. ATA staff will present recommendations to the board in March. The board unanimously approved the discontinuation of the Royals Express and Chiefs Express service in 2009. The combined loss of operating revenue for these stadium services was about $70,000.
