To the editor:

It’s not the size of the dog in the fight ... it’s the size of the fight in the dog.

That’s what we had printed on the ceiling of the wrestling room at Truman. Well it wasn’t a real wrestling room; it was a steam vent room off the gym. It was about 5 feet tall and hot – great wrestling room.

Well young Jace Banner from Van Horn has the right attitude. He’s made of the right stuff. He doesn’t even have any good mats, and he’s made it to the state championships.

He’s a winner, he’s a winner for Van Horn, and he is a winner in life.

Shows that you don’t have to have all the options and equipment to come out a winner. It’s the size of the fight in the dog.

Now that this young man has shown us he can do it, we should make sure Van Horn has the equipment it needs to get its sports program on track. They need mats, they need a scoreboard and a football field, etc. We wanted them, we got them and now we need to give them the tools….

Come on, Marcie, where are you now, all of you who worked so hard to get the Kansas City schools. Well, we got ’em – now let’s support ’em.
