Beta Sigma Phi, Pi Lambda chapter of Blue Springs, have pledged two new Sisters, Ms. Charla Marriott and Mrs. Sarah Nickel, into our Chapter this year. Pi Lambda also had a very full social calendar this year. Including a romantic, tear-jerker, 4 hanky movie outing of Hotel Rwanda to a Pi Lambda fund raiser for the pre-Civil War Stanley Cemetery beautification project combined with Beta Sigma Phi City Council Rush event. Every year Pi Lambda places a Memorial Day wreath at the Stanley Cemetery along with general clean-up and grooming during the year. Our goal has been to raise funds for a respectful stone to placed honoring the history of the Stanley Cemetery, so it never gets lost again.
Our multi-faceted event in September, Indian Summer Feast, was at the home of Vice President Mrs. Gennessee Norland. Who is also the 4th Vice President of City Council and Rush event Hostess. Our feast included dishes from Thailand, Africa, India, Lebanon, Egypt and Syria that were served on theme decorated tables. In the breeze swayed hanging lanterns and colorful fabrics to set the mood as the cultural part of the program got under way. Area Chapter Sisters designed and made their own costumes and proceeded to shimmy, jingle and sparkle as they danced in the sunshine to ethnic music. The Little Lambda Pies’, Miss. Monica Murphy, Miss. Katy Dotson and Miss. Macy Marriott (our future Legacy girls) belly-danced and sang to the Elvis version of Little Egypt. After food and entertainment, gift baskets that had been very generously donated, were raffled off as part of our fund raiser.
Pi Lambda celebrated with a Valentine Queen Shower for our Queen , Ms. Alice Dotson, enjoying fondue and Love Martinis at The Melting Pot on the Plaza. The event was hosted by her Princesses, Mrs. Cassandra McGinley of Blue Springs and Ms. Jessica Jones of Independence. Founders Day celebrations coming in April and a new Beta Sigma Phi year. With a new theme, new officers and exciting new goals in Life, Learning and Friendship the Beta Sigma Phi motto.
