  • The National Weather Service has posted a flood warning for the Little Blue River in Eastern Jackson County.
Although the river was at 5.5 feet at Lake City at mid-afternoon today, it’s expected to briefly rise above flood stage – 18 feet – sometime Thursday morning, meaning minor flooding in low-lying adjacent areas. The river is expected to crest at 18.5 feet.
Soil, at least near the surface, is generally wet after the last few days and weeks of rain, and heavy is expected today, generally 2 to 4 inches but 3 to 6 inches in places that get hit by storms from the warm front headed north today and then again by the cold front headed southeast tonight, according to the Weather Service.
Flood warnings are up for several rivers in the northwest and central parts of the state, including the Platte in Platte County, the Hundred and Two near Maryville, the Blackwater at Valley City, the Crooked near Richmond and the Lamine near Otterville.
