Examiner High School Girls Athlete of the Week for Jan. 28: Eleanor Prewitt-Thomas

EXAMINER GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

ELEANOR PREWITT-THOMAS
SPORT: Swimming
CLASS: Senior
SCHOOL: Blue Springs
HIGHLIGHTS: The senior dominated in the Kansas City Classic, winning the 500-yard freestyle and 200 individual medley to help the Wildcats to the team title. Her time of 4 minutes, 58 seconds in the 500 was just off the school record set by Molly Brammer. She also helped the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams to victories.
COMMENT: “I’m loving her attitude in races,” Wildcats coach Bill Shalley said. “She’s willing to go right out and go after them. If you go with her, can you keep up? If you don’t go with her, can you catch her? Can you outsprint her at the end? There aren’t many options, that’s why she is so strong in all her races. Even when she doesn’t go out as well, she really works hard and turns it on.”
OTHER NOMINEES: Kelcy Vanarsdall, Fort Osage, basketball; Molly Menefee, Blue Springs, diving; Shelby Bolin, Stephanie Closser, Ashlan Higgins, Abby Stanley, Blue Springs, swimming; Kara Schoneboom, Truman, swimming; Roetta Kremer, Truman, basketball; Kealee McAhan, William Chrisman, basketball.
