The Missouri Mavericks first tryouts for the Filly’s, the Central Hockey League team’s new cheerleading squad, will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Independence Events Center.

The Missouri Mavericks first tryouts for the Filly’s, the Central Hockey League team’s new cheerleading squad, will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Independence Events Center.

Open to females ages 18 or older, the Filly’s will perform at all Mavericks home games and take part in activities throughout the community.

Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Participants will learn routines at 6 p.m. and competition will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Filly’s will receive discounts at Bolero Salon, free tanning at Oasis Tan, tickets to Mavericks games and also will be paid.

Finalists’ names will be posted on the Mavericks website and at the Events Center that evening.

The finals will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blue Springs Harley Davidson at 3100 N.W. Jefferson Street (Interstate 70 north outer road) between Woods Chapel and Missouri 7. This event is open to the public.

The Mavericks will also host auditions for national anthem and various in-game entertainment acts on Sept. 18 at the Events Center. The event will last from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with separate auditions scheduled throughout the day.

Those interested in singing the national anthem should audition between 10 a.m. and noon; the on-ice/intermission entertainment will audition from 2 to 4 p.m. and non-skating entertainment is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m.
