  • The game lasted a second too long for the Grain Valley girls basketball team.
Erica Hunt hit a 3-pointer at buzzer, lifting Pembroke Hill to a 40-39 victory over the host Eagles Friday night.
“We trailed the whole way and took the lead with under 30 seconds to play,” Grain Valley coach Randy Draper said. “They took a shot, there was a long rebound and she hit the shot at the buzzer.
“We didn’t play well all week and the first half tonight. But in the second half, we started playing. If this was a wake-up call that gets us going, it was worth it. If not, then it was a bad loss.”
Grain Valley (13-7) trailed 18-9 at halftime. Courtney Sibert posted 11 points to pace the Eagles while Rachel Reddell ended with eight and Chandler Huttinger added seven.
PARK HILL SOUTH 54, BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 35: The Jaguars had to settle for fourth place in the North Kansas City Tournament Friday night.
Remy Davenport was the only Jaguar in double figures with 12 points. Cloe Lane finished with 7.
MARANATHA ACADEMY 56, ST. MARY’S 40: Shayla Jochum’s 13 points and Victoria Kuestermeyer’s eight weren’t enough to lift the visiting Trojans to the Crossroads Conference victory Friday night in Shawnee, Kan.
“This is a tough place for us to play,” St. Mary’s coach Krista Daniels said. “We trailed 25-17 at halftime and got it within four in the fourth quarter and couldn’t get over the hump.”
The Trojans fell to 5-14 and 1-5.
