Norman Kays, 85, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, August 26, 2011, at Blue Springs Cemetery. Norman was born June 1, 1926, in Versailles, Missouri, to Hugh and Lela (Bonine) Kays. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Kays was a member of Susquehanna Baptist Church and the Independence Masonic Lodge #76. He retired from Lake City in 1988, after 20 years of faithful service. Norman was passionate about fishing and later in life was a caregiver to many.

Mr. Kays is survived by his son, Gary Kays, and wife, Patty; grandchildren, Nick Kays and wife, Dominique, and Allyssa Kays; great-grandson Ronan; and by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Norma Kays, in July 2008; and by four brothers and one sister.
