Rich Baldinger was driving Dodge that collided with Grain Valley couple's Saturn at U.S. 40 and Bowlin Road.

A crash that killed a Grain Valley woman Saturday involved a former player for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Marilyn Walters, 61, of Grain Valley, died at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence after the car she was riding in was struck by Rich Baldinger, who was driving the second vehicle.   According to a report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just after 2 p.m. The 2001 Saturn, driven by Jerry L. Walters, 60, of Grain Valley, was eastbound on U.S. 40. The 2009 Dodge that was driven by Baldinger, 49, of Grandview, was northbound on Bowlin Road and broadsided the Saturn at the intersection in Blue Springs.   Marilyn Walters was flown by helicopter to Centerpoint Medical Center where she was declared dead.   Baldinger, who played for the Chiefs for more than 10 years, was not injured. A second passenger in the Saturn, Christina L. Hainley, 29, of Pleasant Hill, Mo., received moderate injuries and was taken to Research Hospital in Kansas City. Jerry Walters received minor injures and was also taken to Centerpoint Medical Center.   Both Hainley and Marilyn Walters were wearing seat belts. The report indicated that Jerry Walters was not.   The Missouri Highway Patrol is continuing the investigation, and charges are pending.
