    shred old papers
    There’s a paper-shredding event this Saturday in Grain Valley. You can bring up to three boxes or stacks of unwanted personal documents.
    It’s from 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at City Hall, 711 Main Street. it’s free but only open to residents of Grain Valley or those working in Grain Valley. The event is sponsored by the Bank of Grain Valley and the State Bank of Missouri, and bank and law-enforcement officials will be on hand with tips on protecting yourself from identity theft.
    Saturday also is National Prescription Drug Turn-in Disposal Day, and in Grain Valley that takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., also in the parking lot. Bring old prescription drugs as well as over-the-counter medicine for safe disposal. It’s open to the community.
    Giles joins Adams
    Dairy Bank team
    Adams Dairy Bank has named Steven W. Giles as executive vice president, chief lending officer.
    Giles was among the founders of Freedom Bank in Overland Park, where he most recently was its chief lending officer. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration at William Jewell College and a master’s of business administration degree, with an emphasis in finance, at Avila University. He lives in Lee’s Summit.

    The annual meeting of the Blue Springs Economic Development Corp. is next week.
    It’s from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. May 2 at the Adams Pointe Conference Center, 1400 N.E. Coronado Drive.
