  • A Lee’s Summit man already charged in a child pornography case faces new charges.
Joel D. White, 41 – who had been serving as a youth soccer coach and had a photography and DJ business that dealt primarily with children – was charged Tuesday with three counts of attempted production of child porn.
According to court documents, White allegedly tried to get three girls to “engage in sexually explicit conduct for the product for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of such conduct” between May 1, 2012, and March 20, 2013.
White was originally charged on April 23 on one count of producing child porn. He allegedly secretly videotaped girls from the under-12 and under-15 soccer teams he coached through the Lee’s Summit Soccer Association. Tuesday’s indictment replaces the original charge.
Last week a federal judge ordered White held without bond. He remains in federal custody without being able to post bond.
According to court documents, police officers in Commerce City, Colo., discovered videos of nude minors on White’s camera. White was attending a U.S. World Cup qualifying game in the Denver area last month when cameras were seized by police as part of a criminal investigation. The Commerce City police then alerted Lee’s Summit police of what was discovered.
Court documents say White is shown on video positioning a camera in a bedroom in his home on Southeast 7th Terrace so that it is hidden. Police say shortly after White left the room, the videos show several minors, ages 12 and 13, changing clothes and appear to not have knowledge that they are being taped.
White allegedly told police he taped minors in the nude without their consent 10 to 15 times between May and October 2012. He also allegedly told police he inappropriately touched a young girl while sleeping at his house. At least four child victims have been identified so far.
White, if convicted, faces a minimum 15-year prison sentence without parole on each count.
