  • A Blue Springs man has been charged in the stabbing of his wife earlier this week.
Willie E. Shepard, 51, faces charges of first degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
The incident happened about 8:30 p.m. Monday night at the Knight’s Inn and Suites, 3400 N.W. Jefferson St. in Blue Springs. The couple had been staying at the hotel, although in different rooms on different floors.
According to court records, Shepard entered a motel room Monday where his 35-year-old wife was visiting a female friend. The estranged couple began to argue. According to the court documents, Shepard believed his wife was involved with another man. He then attempted to persuade her to leave the room with him. When the woman refused, Shepard allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim 10 times. The stab wounds were all over the victim’s body including in the upper and lower back, upper arm, lower side and once each in the neck and abdomen.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but is expected to survive.
Shepard fled the scene after the incident and was picked up Tuesday by the Kansas City Police Department. During an interview with the Blue Springs Police Department, Shepard said he had “blacked out” and did not remember what he had done in the hotel room. The court documents say that he drove to Kansas City, where he slept in his car. When he awoke the next morning, he called an uncle he told him about the stabbing.
The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office requested a $250,000 bond.
