On Feb. 6, starting at 8 a.m. throughout the Blue Springs School District at the four middle school gymnasium facilities, the school district and Special Olympics Missouri organization will conduct the annual District Basketball Competition/Tournament for the SO programs within the Kansas City Metro district.

The day long competition includes individual skills events, 3-vs-3 basketball games and 5-vs-5 basketball games for Special Olympics teams and athletes from several schools and organizations from around the greater Kansas City metro area.

Last year’s event involved participation by several hundred SO athletes.

In addition to great competition, each hosting middle school site will have a fundraising concessions operation.

According to the SOMO Web site, games will begin at 8 a.m. according to the following layout: Brittany Hills and Delta Woods will host 5-on-5 games, Sunny Vale will have 3-on-3 and Team Skills and Moreland Ridge will host 5-on-5 and 3-on-3 team competitions. Note that this arrangement is subject to change based on the number of teams and other competition requirements.

Visit the SOMO Web site at somo.org/Page.aspx?pid=180, pull down tab “In Your Area,” then hit KC Metro Area tab to see the most current details of this district event.
