  • Tabitha's Closet, sponsored by Independence First Christian Church, will hold its Second Annual Benefit Golf Tournament Aug. 3 at the Drumm Farm Golf Club. This 4-person scramble format is open to both men and women, with registration and continental breakfast beginning at 7 a.m., and a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
Tabitha's Closet, a nonprofit organization, serves families in the Independence area by providing clothing for children infant through high school. Tabitha's is just over 9 years old and has grown steadily in response to community needs and capacity to serve. During 2012-2013 school year, more than 1,900 children received shoes, socks, underwear, pants, shirts and a coat through Tabitha's Closet. In recent years, this effort has received growing support from other churches, organizations, service clubs and individuals. One hundred percent of the profits from this tournament will go directly to Tabitha's to purchase shoes and clothing.
The player registration fee of $95 is required by July 24 and includes green fees and cart, beverages and snacks on the course, continental breakfast, luncheon banquet and flight prizes. There will also be a silent auction and raffle, as well as skill competitions on the golf course. To register go to www.tournevents.com/Tabitha2013. Hole sponsors, cash donations and in-kind donations are also needed to help support this growing community need and help fulfill Tabitha's motto, “It's not just about keeping them warm”.
For more information or to find out how you can help, call Pam Gibson at 816-522-4915 or the church at 816-252-6100.
