Top 10 fall trends to look out for
With fall and winter right around the corner, it’s time to shop! Local boutique owners Madeline and Cindy McClain of the Uptown Boutique on the Historic Independence Square and I discovered the top 10 trends for women this fall. With fashion always reusing from the past, this season brings in trends from the 1980s! Now, I know what your thinking, “The ’80s...yuck!” but trust me, it’s not what you think! These trends will not only make you feel youthful, but also make you look great!
10 Leather. Jackets, pants, and skirts were seen all over the runways in shades of black, brown, and even navy. Not everyone can pull-off the leather pant look, but they do look great paired under a cocoon coat! Still want to make your rock and roll fantasies come true? Accessorize with leather hair pieces, jewelry, and bags.
9 Cocoon coat. This baggy alternative will keep you warm and cozy while out and about. The large volume of fabric adds extra drama. Pair with slim pants or leggings.
8 Fur. Fur is fierce and makes a bold statement. Anti-fur? Try faux fur additions to coats around collars and cuffs.
7 Thigh-high boots. Thigh skimming boots were storming the Fashion Week runways of L.A. and Paris. These boots give legs a slimming look and work best in dark colors like black or grey.
6 Long gloves. Sleek and classy, long gloves give a classic look to jackets this season. Three quarter-length sleeves look great paired with long gloves and still keep you warm.
5 British punk rock look. Jackets with plaids in green, blue, and yellow, buckels, and rips give off a dark and edgy feel taken directly from the streets of London. Top model Agyness Deyn embraces this trend.
4 Neon pink. This pink highlighter hue can be seen on the runway of popular designer Marc Jacobs. This bright color also works with all skin tones. Too scared to wear an entire dress or coat in neon pink? Play it safe by accessorizing with neons.
3 Strong shoulders. Reminiscent of jackets from the 1980s, bold shoulders are back. The large shoulder slims the waist and improves posture.
2 Metallic dresses and tops. Sparkle and shine all day and into the night. No longer are metallics and sparkles just for evening wear. Pair with grey trousers for a daytime look that’s sure to turn heads.
1 Layers. A trend well suited for all body shapes, layering can mix items from past seasons with your new purchases, not to mention hide specific areas of the body. T-shirts worn under chunky sweaters from last season with a new leather jacket not only appear as a new and trendy outfit, but saves you money by reusing garments you already own!
