An Eastern Jackson County tradition is continuing as two area communities celebrate the holiday season while raising money for the Community Services League at the same time.

The Mayor’s Christmas Concert and the Spirit of Caring Christmas Concert are both annual fundraisers for the CSL. The Mayor’s Christmas Concert is at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Community of Christ Auditorium in Independence, and the Spirit of Caring Concert is at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Blue Springs High School Performing Arts Center, 2000 N.W. Ashton Drive in Blue Springs.

Admission is free to the Independence concert although donations are accepted. Admission to the Blue Springs concert is $4.

All of the proceeds raised through donations go directly to the CSL for families who need assistance during the holiday season. Photos with Santa Claus will also be available at the Independence concert for one hour prior and one hour after the concert for a $5 donation.

Among the performers in the Mayor’s Christmas concert are the Independence Fourth Grade Choir, the Truman High School Concert Choir, the Young MAIstersingers and the Spirit of Independence Band.

Performers at the Spirit of Caring Concert include choirs from the Blue Springs School District and the Blue Springs community. A Christmas tree, donated by Mera-Vic in Grain Valley, will also be raffled, with all proceeds going to the CSL.
