The man arrested Friday evening in connection with the shooting death of a toddler in Independence is in custody in Nebraska, pending extradition and charges. Ashton Cleveland, 23, is considered a person of interest by Independence police and as of Monday had not been charged in connection with Friday afternoon’s shooting death of a 3-yearold, identified by IPD as Benjamin Cope.
