Following a brilliant career at Blue Springs South High School, Kenna Lester had no idea if she could continue playing the sport she loved at the collegiate level. “There just weren’t many offers after my senior season,” said Lester, who played a big role in the Jaguars’ two state softball championships along with earning all-state recognition.

Lois Delene (Petree) Charles, 94, of Independence, Mo., passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Oak Grove Nursing Home in Oak Grove, Mo. Cremation is planned and a celebration of her life to be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, Independence. Inurnment will be in Mt. Washington Cemetery.

Electoral loopholes need to be closed

The House select committee hearings into the Capitol insurrection have established two facts virtually beyond debate: One, former President Donald Trump is culpable for what his followers did that day in support of his unprecedented attempt to overthrow a valid election. And, two, Trump’s scheme was aided by deep flaws in the federal statutes guiding the process of counting and certifying electoral votes.
