Duane Mark Hazelrigg went peacefully to his Heavenly Father on Friday, the 17th of June, 2022. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 8, at 10 a.m., at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, MO 64052. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo. Born on the 23rd of May, 1949, Duane attended Odessa and Blue Springs High Schools. He then chose to serve his country, honorably, in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam. He went on to earn a Purple Heart during the Tet Offensive of 1968. When he returned home, Duane earned an Associates of Arts Degree from Penn Valley College then studied Geology at Missouri State University. Duane’s career ranged from loan officer to owner and operator of Dominant Force Trucking Company. He also attended Friendship Baptist Church in Holden, Mo. for many years. He was quite an animated storyteller, incorporating various accents and personas for banter and the telling of jokes. He shared numerous adventures and observations of nature with many people and was always eager to get to know new people. Duane enjoyed: bonfires, cars, motorcycles, cookouts and the 4th of July, in particular. He also adored his two orange cats: Snapper and Notches. He was well read, walked regularly at nearby Hill Park and around his own neighborhood, he loved word games and inventing nicknames for people and pets. The youngest of 11 children, Duane was preceded in death by his parents Josephine and Herbert Hazelrigg, sister Rosemary Brookens, brothers: Raymond, Roland, Darrell and Milton Hazelrigg along with Milton’s wife Evelyn, both of Mountain Grove, Mo. Survived by his beloved daughter Courtney and her husband Pete Linder, along with his grandchildren Peter Bishop, Shelby Brooke and Adrian James Linder. He is also survived by his brothers: Stanley, Herb and wife Barbara, Alan and wife Elizabeth, John and wife Debbie, Terry and wife Patty, along with, numerous nieces and nephews.
