Royals’ Merrifield says he ‘poorly articulated’ vax remarks

Two-time All-Star Whit Merrifield of the Kansas City Royals apologized Friday for “poorly articulated” comments about the COVID-19 vaccine after missing the team’s trip to Canada. Merrifield was among 10 Royals players who didn’t travel to Toronto because of their vaccination status for a four-game series against the Blue Jays before the All-Star break last week.

McMahill signs with Reds – again

For the second time this month, Jake McMahill is ready to start his pro career for the Cincinnati Reds. The Missouri State product, via State Fair Community College and the University of Evansville, was pitching in an independent Frontier League when the Reds purchased his contract from the Florence Y’alls on July 8.

Spread of COVID-19 remains high in Jackson County

Jackson County remains an area of high community spread of COVID-19, based on federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention standards, leading to mask requirements in some indoor facilities. The Truman Library in Independence and Truman National Historical Site locations require masks indoors for visitors, and Jackson County requires masks in county buildings, as well as temperature checks for employees entering the buildings and testing for unvaccinated employees.
