KENNETH RAY SCHUMACHER

Ken, lovingly known as Pops, of Independence, MO, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022, at his home with family beside him. Ken was born February 23, 1952 in Clinton, MO to Raymond and Selma (Ehlers) Schumacher of Cole Camp, MO. He was baptized by Pastor Henry Gerike on March 16, 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church. His sponsors were Edwin and Leona Schnakenberg and Richard Ehlers. Ken was confirmed by Pastor Krout at Trinity Lutheran on April 3, 1966. Ken graduated from Cole Camp High School in 1970 and received his BS in Architectural Design from UCM in 1974. Ken spent his career in the farming, insurance and real estate industries. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He served as Mayor of Malta Bend, MO and was a former member of the Corder Lions Club. He was a skilled carpenter, electrician, plumber, and painter. Ken’s time throughout his life was dedicated to loving, providing, and caring for his family. Ken’s patient spirit and kind soul always shone in the presence of animals and children. He loved spending time with his family and friends, traveling (especially cruises), being in nature, hunting (quail, deer and pheasant), singing and dancing to country western and reggae music and he loved a good game of pitch. He never passed up a chance to treat his grandkids and grand dog to ice cream! He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Patty Schumacher; two children, Kristopher Schumacher and wife (Kelly) and Kara Schumacher all of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Gretchen, Konrad, Karolina, Lillian and Juniper and his grand dog, Bonnie. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Delores Schumacher. Per Ken’s wishes, his body has been bequeathed to KU’s Willed Body Program for medical research. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. A Tribute by the KU medical students will be held in August 2023 at KU Medical Center followed by a graveside service at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Cole Camp, MO. Carole, age 76, of Indep. MO lost her battle with cancer on July 10, 2022. She was born Nov 12, 1945, in KC, MO. A proud member of Beta Sigma Phi for 50 years. Worked in home health at Integrity as a Personal Caregiver for 22 years and The Wednesday Magazine for 39 years. Member of St. Marks Catholic Church. She is survived by 4 children: Melinda Boothe, Michele Gilner, Bryan Van Nimwegen, Melissa Johnson, Sister: Susan Johnson, 6 Grandchildren, and 7 Great Grandchildren. BOB WILLIAMS

Bob Williams (Robert Lee Williams, 19362022), loving husband of Judy Williams, attentive and supportive father of Jeff, Julie, and Joey, encouraging grandfather of Kyle and Hana Lee, and adoring great-grandfather of Jones Robert Lee, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the age of 85. Bob and Judy celebrated 66 years of marriage in June.

Chili-Rubbed Pork with Cucumber-Melon Salad

Start to finish: 35 minutes Servings: 4 5 teaspoons ancho chili powder, divided 2 teaspoons ground cumin Kosher salt and ground black pepper 1-pound pork tenderloin, trimmed of silver skin and cut crosswise into 3 pieces 2 teaspoons lime zest, divided, plus 3 tablespoons lime juice 3 tablespoons light agave syrup, divided 2 cups cubed seedless red watermelon (about 8 ounces) 2 cups cubed cantaloupe (about 8 ounces) ½ English cucumber, halved lengthwise, seeded and cut into bite-size pieces 5 tablespoons roughly chopped fresh mint, divided 2 tablespoons grapeseed or other neutral oil Heat the oven to 450°F with a rack in the middle position. In a medium bowl, mix 2 teaspoons of the chili powder, the cumin, 2 teaspoons salt and ½ teaspoon pepper.
