ON THEIR WAY DOWNSTREAM

Some of the first paddlers in the 17th Missouri American Water MR340 race pass by LaBenite Park at the Missouri 291 bridge Tuesday morning. More than 600 paddlers -- some solo, some in tandem boats and others in multi-person boats -- started at the confluence of the Missouri and Kansas rivers aiming for downtown St. Charles by Friday. The stretch of the Missouri River across the state is the river’s longest without any dams, and fastest competitors will often finish in less than 40 hours. [MIKE GENET/THE EXAMINER]
