Stay-at-home mom anxious as 20-year marriage crumbles

DEAR ABBY: My husband, “Brett,” and I have been legally married for five years. We had a common-law marriage for more than 15 years before that. Brett was always a stable and encouraging partner, but over the last two to three years he has changed. He’s angry and he blames me for things that could not possibly be my fault. He blows up in a rage and throws things across the room over insignificant annoyances. He has removed my name from our bank accounts and changed all the passwords.

Radon testing can spare health problems

Thanks to a federal grant, the Independence Housing Authority will be able to perform radon testing across the entire Hocker Heights apartment complex. Independence will receive a $509,444 grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, enough for 140 testing units and to cover any mitigation that might be necessary from high-level positive tests.

Cats’ Jantzen relishes final race

Blue Springs senior Danny Jantzen left Jefferson City and the Class 6 Missouri State High School Track and Field Championships with two medals and a world of memories. But one that will top all the rest was his 4x400-meter relay team’s final tribute to Wildcats legend Joe Cusack, who retired following his 14th season as the Blue Springs boys track and field head coach.

Habitat opens a community resource

Recently moved in, the Truman Heritage chapter of Habitat for Humanity is ready to start showing off some of its first permanent office space to the community. Habitat renovated and now occupies the former Hiram Young Elementary school building in northern Independence, which is next to its Independence ReStore warehouse.
